Description
This vintage carved wood duck decoy represents a canvasback drake. The figure features a reddish-brown head with inset red glass eyes, a black breast and tail, and a white body decorated with gray vermiculated paint details. The underside is fitted with a lead weight strip and a metal anchor ring. The base of the decoy features a hand-inscribed cursive signature that reads R. P. Madison, Mackey Coll., and 1957. The inscription references the provenance of the renowned William J. Mackey Jr. collection. The construction consists of a carved wooden body with what appears to be original painted surfaces.

Condition report:
The decoy shows moderate wear consistent with age and field use. A significant horizontal structural check or crack is present along the right side of the wooden body. There is visible paint loss, scuffing, and abrasions to the painted surface, most notably on the bill, head, and tail sections. The metal hardware on the underside shows surface oxidation.
