Description
A vintage folk art ice fishing spearing decoy carved from wood and painted to represent a rainbow trout. The tapered body features a green and yellow ground decorated with a prominent reddish lateral stripe and numerous black spots. It is constructed with four inset metal fins and a fixed tail carved integrally with the body. A single metal screw eye is mounted to the dorsal surface for suspension. The eyes are represented by simple painted white and black circles. No maker marks, signatures, or labels are present.
Length: 9 inches.
Condition report:
The decoy exhibits significant age-related wear and evidence of use. There is widespread paint loss and flaking across the body, particularly on the ventral surface and the metal fins. The metal components show surface oxidation. Various nicks, surface abrasions, and small losses to the wood are visible throughout.
