Description
A bronze sculpture depicting a standing female nude in a contemplative pose, resting one knee and her hands against a rugged, naturalistic rocky outcrop. The figure gazes downward toward a small frog located at the bottom right of the base. The piece is finished in a dark chocolate-brown patina, showing typical verdigris oxidation in the deeper crevices and within the hollowed interior of the base. The sculpture is cast as a single unit with its base, the underside of which shows remnants of a brown felt covering that is now mostly worn away, revealing a mottled green-oxidized interior surface. An incised signature is visible along the rear edge of the base, transcribed as © H. B. W. P o r t e r.

Condition report:
Minor surface wear to the patina on high points is visible in the front and profile views (photos 1, 2, and 3). Scattered pinhead-sized casting pits are present on the torso and limbs (photo 2). There is significant loss and fraying of the protective felt backing on the underside (photo 6). Verdigris and interior oxidation are evident in the recesses of the rocky base and within the hollow interior (photos 5 and 6).
