Description
A blue and white porcelain ginger jar of globular form with a matching fitted lid. The vessel is decorated in underglaze blue with a motif of scrolling vines and stylized floral medallions, which are traditional motifs in Chinese export ceramics representing purity and longevity. The shoulder is bordered by a band of scrolling vines set between double blue lines. The lid features a central floral design surrounded by concentric bands. Both the interior of the jar and the underside of the lid are white glazed. The rim of the jar and the inner flange of the lid are unglazed. The underside of the base is covered with an applied black felt protective pad, and no maker marks are visible.
Height of jar: 8.25 inches (photo 3).
Condition report:
The porcelain is in good condition with no visible cracks, chips, or repairs. Minor roughness and slight discoloration are visible on the unglazed rim of the jar and the corresponding inner flange of the lid (photo 2). A black felt pad is adhered to the base (photo 4).
