Description
One decorative grouping features a single eggshell with a landscape scene carved in relief against a purple-dyed background. The design depicts a pagoda, a gnarled pine tree, and a bird in flight. The egg is suspended by a gold-tone chain and a decorative petal-form metal cap from a dark-stained wooden stand. The stand is constructed with an arched top and an openwork carved base featuring scrollwork motifs. A second grouping comprises a collection of opaque white eggs presented in a dark-toned wire basket. The eggs are smooth and polished, appearing to be crafted from handblown milk glass. The basket is made of dark metal wire and features a scalloped, looped rim and two twisted wire handles in a heart shape. The interior base of the basket contains a circular insert with a multi-colored decorative pattern. No maker marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the eggshells, the stand, or the basket.
Condition report:
The carved eggshell shows no visible cracks or losses to the etched surface (photo 2). The wooden stand is stable with minor surface wear consistent with age (photo 2). The white eggs are intact with no apparent chips or fractures (photo 3). The wire basket shows surface oxidation and darkening typical of its material (photo 3). The decorative base insert shows light surface wear and some accumulation of dust in the crevices (photo 3).
