Description
This lot features a three-volume paperback book set titled The Complete Far Side 1980-1994 by Gary Larson, published by Andrews McMeel Publishing. The collection is housed in a custom cardboard slipcase decorated with a black and white cow-hide pattern. The set includes Volume One covering January 1980 to June 1984, Volume Two covering July 1984 to June 1988, and Volume Three covering July 1988 to December 1994. The compilation contains over four thousand syndicated cartoons, a foreword by Steve Martin, an essay by Larson’s longtime editor, and nineteen additional cartoons created after the artist’s retirement. The interior pages are printed on white paper and feature both black and white and full-color illustrations organized chronologically.
The back of the slipcase features a black panel with white printed text reading THE COMPLETE FAR SIDE 1980-1994 by Gary Larson. A white label on the back panel includes the publisher’s stylized u logo within a square and the printed name Andrews McMeel PUBLISHING above the website www.andrewsmcmeel.com. The label also displays a barcode with the numbers 0 50837 33696 4, retail prices $135.00 US $180.00 CA £111.00 UK, and ISBN 978-1-4494-6004-4. A second barcode at the bottom contains the numbers 9 781449 460044 90000. Printed text indicates the set was manufactured in China and carries a copyright date of 2014 and 2003 for FarWorks, Inc. A small gray amoeba-shaped logo for FarWorks, Inc. is located at the lower right of the label. The spine of each paperback volume also bears the Andrews McMeel stylized u logo.
Condition report:
The set is in near-new condition. The cow-print slipcase shows very minimal shelf wear at the corners (photo 2). The paperback covers and spines are crisp and free of creasing, markings, or detachment (photo 1). The interior pages are clean, bright, and show no signs of foxing or notations (photo 4 and 5).
