Description
This large quarto-format hardcover volume serves as a comprehensive archival record of the magazine’s cover art, titled The Complete Book of Covers from The New Yorker 1925-1989. The book is presented in a white pictorial dust jacket featuring the magazine’s mascot, Eustace Tilley, originally designed by Rea Irvin, flanked by vertical bands of pastel blue, green, pink, and purple. The spine is printed with the title and the publisher’s name, KNOPF. The interior consists of glossy pages containing hundreds of miniature full-color reproductions of covers arranged in chronological order. Pages 142 and 143 display a selection of covers from 1948, including dates ranging from March 13, 1948, to June 26, 1948. The reproductions include work by various illustrators associated with the publication during this period.
Condition report:
The dust jacket displays minor shelf wear and light rubbing along the top and bottom edges and at the corners (photo 1). There is slight bumping to the corners of the boards visible through the jacket (photo 1). The interior pages, including pages 142 and 143, show no visible markings, inscriptions, or significant wear (photo 2).
