Description
This US 1889 Morgan silver dollar is presented in a silver-toned metal jewelry pendant mount. The coin features the Liberty Head obverse and is dated 1889. The reverse is partially visible through four cutouts in the mount, revealing portions of the original design including the motto In God We Trust in Gothic script. Centered on the reverse is an enameled medallion featuring the name PIEL’S in blue lettering on a white ground, identifying the piece as a promotional item for Piel’s Beer. The coin is secured by a four-prong bezel and includes a suspension loop. The coin is removable from the mount. No mint mark is visible. The 1889 Philadelphia issue is a common date with a mintage of approximately 21,726,000.Metal Composition: 0.900 Silver.
Condition report:
The coin exhibits significant wear consistent with a fine grade and has been polished, resulting in a high luster that highlights numerous surface scratches and contact marks on the obverse and in the fields. Green oxidation (verdigris) is present around the edges of the mount cutouts. The item is ungraded and shows signs of use as a jewelry piece.
