Description
This fine pewter sculpture, titled Sioux War Cry, is the work of artist Michael Aden Boyett for Chilmark. The dynamic composition features a Sioux warrior atop a rearing horse, captured in a moment of intense action. The rider holds a coup stick aloft in his left hand and carries a decorated war shield on his back, with long feathers trailing from his headdress and the horse’s mane. The piece is mounted on a tiered, dark-finished wooden base. The sculpture is cast in fine pewter with a matte gray patina. Multiple markings identify the piece: the title SIOUX WAR CRY is engraved on the front edge of the pewter base; the rear edge is incised with the copyright symbol, the date 1980, and the signature Michael Boyett; the side of the base shows the edition number 756/2500. A circular metal identification plate on the underside of the wooden base repeats the title and artist signature, along with the Chilmark brand name and logo. A small gold-toned medallion is also inset into the wooden underside.
Approximately 8 inches x 6 inches x 4 inches.
Condition report:
The sculpture is in excellent condition. There are no missing components, breaks, or visible signs of repair. The pewter surface shows a consistent patina with only minor accumulated dust in recessed areas. The wooden base is free of significant scratches or surface wear.
