Description
This hand-carved and painted wooden ice fishing decoy is modeled in the form of a trout. The piece features a shaped wooden body with inset dark glass eyes and multiple applied metal fins, including a dorsal fin, pectoral fins, and pelvic fins. A metal screw-eye suspension loop is fixed to the dorsal ridge for use. The underside of the decoy is marked with a single, large, hand-painted black letter M. The decoy exhibits a folk art style with a multi-toned painted surface featuring black spotting intended to mimic the appearance of a trout.
Approximately 15.5 inches in length.
Condition report:
The condition is consistent with age and field use. The painted surface shows significant crazing, chipping, and overall surface wear. A prominent longitudinal crack is visible along the wooden body. The metal fins exhibit oxidation, minor bending, and paint loss.
