Description
This lot consists of three blue and white ceramic plates decorated with the traditional Blue Willow pattern in blue underglaze transfer. The decoration features the classic elements of the pattern, including pagodas, bridges, willow trees, and a pair of birds. The group includes two circular three-compartment grill plates and one standard round dinner plate. The two grill plates each bear a blue underglaze backstamp on the reverse featuring a central sun-face emblem below the text MADE IN ENGLAND. Two banners beneath the emblem contain the characters JOHN STEVENTON and & SONS LTD, with BURSLEM printed at the bottom. One of these plates also features a small black stamped 2, while the other shows two small black parallel marks. The dinner plate bears a green circular backstamp on the reverse reading MADE IN U.S.A. and FALLS CREEK, PA. around its outer edge, with a central horizontal banner containing the word JACKSON, with VITRIFIED above and CHINA below.
Grill plates: approximately 10.75 inches in diameter.
Dinner plate: approximately 9 inches in diameter.
Condition report:
The two John Steventon and Sons grill plates exhibit significant all-over surface crazing and scattered brown staining and discoloration visible on their reverse sides (photos 4, 5, and 6). The Jackson Vitrified China dinner plate is in generally good condition with minor surface wear and faint utensil marks consistent with age and use (photo 3). No chips, cracks, or professional repairs are visible in the provided images.
