Description
A collection of four ceramic plates featuring blue and white transferware decoration. The collection includes two ironstone plates with scalloped rims featuring the English Village pattern. The central decoration depicts a rural landscape with a thatched-roof cottage, a stone bridge, and large trees. These plates are marked on the reverse with a blue printed backstamp featuring an illustration of the cottage scene under an arc reading English Village, with text below reading by Salem China Co., OLDE STAFFORDSHIRE, FINEST ENGLISH IRONSTONE, HAND ENGRAVED UNDERGLAZE, PERMANENT COLOUR, © SALEM, and ENGLAND. The other two plates feature smooth rims and a landscape design depicting a turreted castle, figures on a bridge, and a horse-drawn cart, surrounded by large floral clusters. One of these Japanese-made plates is marked on the reverse with a blue printed rectangular stamp reading BLUE CASTLE, CHINA, JAPAN, PATENT, and APPLIEDFOR. The second Japanese-made plate is marked with a blue printed five-petaled flower symbol containing the letters T and A above the words MADE IN JAPAN.

Condition report:
The collection is in good vintage condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs observed in the photographs. The transfer-printed patterns remain clear with consistent blue coloring. Minor shelf wear is visible on the unglazed foot rings on the reverse of the plates (Photos 2-6).
