Description
This original etching by H. Kirchl depicts the St. Anne’s Column (Annasäule) on Maria-Theresien-Straße in Innsbruck, Austria. The scene includes the monument and flanking historic buildings with the Nordkette mountains in the background. The technique involves fine linear work and plate tone, with a distinct plate mark present. The print bears several pencil inscriptions below the plate mark: Orig. Rad. at the bottom left, Innsbruck at the bottom center, and a signature reading H. Kirchl at the bottom right. It is housed in a cream mat within a dark-stained wood frame that features a carved rope-twist inner border.
Frame: 12.25 inches wide by 15 inches high.
Condition report:
The etching shows generalized paper toning and scattered foxing, particularly in the sky (photo 1). The mat has small stains along the lower edge (photo 1). The frame has a small chip or loss of finish on the right-side inner moulding (photo 1).
