Description
This lot consists of two hand-carved dark hardwood decorative objects, including a rectangular relief panel and a figural architectural finial. The rectangular plaque features a central bird figure, possibly a thrush, perched within a dense arrangement of scrolling foliage and leaves. The vertical carving depicts a winged bust, likely a siren or harpy, supporting a gadrooned urn overflowing with stylized acanthus leaves and topped with a fruit-form finial. Both pieces are executed in a dense hardwood with a dark, aged patina. No maker marks, signatures, or labels are visible on either piece.
The rectangular panel measures 7 1/4 inches wide as shown by the included tape measure. The finial stands approximately 8 inches tall.
Condition report:
The figural finial shows a significant loss to the left wing of the bust. Both pieces exhibit general surface abrasions, minor edge nicks, and accumulated dust in the recessed areas of the carvings consistent with age.
