Lot 37:
Description
A pair of clear glass apothecary bottles with a square footprint and rounded shoulders. Each bottle is fitted with a matching ground-glass mushroom-style stopper. The bottles feature recessed curved glass labels with gold and red borders and black hand-painted lettering. The labels are transcribed AQ. CINNAM. and LIN. CHLOROF. The base of the AQ. CINNAM. bottle is embossed with the characters W. T. CO., U. S. A., and PAT. JAN. 5 1892. The base of the LIN. CHLOROF. bottle bears the same embossed marks, although they are less distinct.
Based on the grid scale, each bottle measures approximately 7.75 inches in total height including the stopper. The bottle body alone is approximately 6.25 inches high, with a width of approximately 2.5 inches square.
Condition report:
Both bottles exhibit significant internal haziness and white mineral residue throughout the interior (photo 1, 2). The LIN. CHLOROF. bottle has a large chip in the upper right corner of the recessed glass label (photo 2). Both labels show minor degradation and loss to the gold and red decorative borders (photo 1). The ground-glass stoppers show light shelf wear but are free of major chips or cracks (photo 3, 5). The glass bodies show general light surface scratching consistent with age and professional pharmacy use.
