Description
A pair of clear molded glass apothecary jars of rectangular form with rounded corners and wide mouths. Each jar is accompanied by a matching ground-glass stopper with a flattened disk top. The jars feature recessed glass labels with a white background, black block lettering, and decorative borders consisting of green, gold, and red lines with stylized foliage in the corners. One jar is labeled ZINC.SULPHAS and the other is labeled PUMICIS P. The base of each jar features an embossed mark. In an arc at the top are the characters W. T. CO., in the center is U. S. A., and in an arc at the bottom is PHILA. & N. Y. This mark indicates the jars were manufactured by the Whitall Tatum Company. May or may not have chips or cracks.
Height with stopper: 7.5 inches
Height without stopper: 5.75 inches
Base width: 2.375 inches.
Condition report:
The jars are in good antique condition with light surface scratches and scuffing consistent with age (photo 2). The jar labeled PUMICIS P. has significant white residue or clouding on the interior of the upper section (photo 1). The labels are intact but show minor foxing and discoloration around the edges (photo 1). The ground-glass stoppers are free of visible chips (photo 3).
