Lot 40:
Description
This pair of matching square-form clear glass apothecary bottles features recessed front panels containing vitrified, reverse-painted glass labels. The white labels display black uppercase lettering reading ACACIA P. and AC. TARTAR. framed by gold-colored borders with stylized radiating motifs in the corners. Both jars include matching mushroom-shaped ground glass stoppers that fit into ground necks. Each base is embossed with circular text reading W. T. and CO. in the outer arc, U. S. A. in the inner arc, and PAT. JULY. 18. 1899 along the bottom arc, which identifies the manufacturer as Whitall Tatum and Company. May or may not have chips or cracks.
Overall Height: 7.5 inches
Body Width: 2.25 inches.
Condition report:
The glass bodies are intact with no major cracks or large chips visible. Both bottles exhibit internal clouding, surface haze, and dried residue (photos 1 and 3). The vitrified glass labels are complete but show signs of age, including wear to the gold-toned borders and darkening of the white background behind the glass, most noticeably on the jar labeled AC. TARTAR. (photo 1). The ground glass stoppers and necks show typical minor shelf wear and fleabites to the ground surfaces (photo 3).
