Description
A blue and white porcelain figurine depicting a guardian lion, also known as a shishi or foo dog. The figure is modeled in a dynamic, crouching pose with its front right paw resting on a reticulated brocade ball. Inside the pierced ball is a small, loose, and movable porcelain sphere. A smaller cub is perched on the lion’s back, positioned near the tail. The piece is decorated in underglaze blue over a white ground, featuring stylized scrolling manes, foliate patterns along the spine, and concentric circular motifs on the limbs and tail. The facial features are detailed with bulging eyes and bared teeth. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the exterior or accessible portions of the figurine.

Condition report:
The figurine is in generally good condition. A small pinkish-purple smudge or stain is present on the rear right flank (Image 2). Occasional minor firing imperfections, such as small glaze pops and pinholes, are visible across the surface (Images 1 and 3). Light surface wear and minor dust accumulation are present in the deeper recessed areas of the modeling. No cracks, chips, or restorations are apparent in the provided photographs.
