Description

A collection of antiquarian volumes in various bindings. One volume is bound in tan cloth with a ribbed spine, bearing the gilt-stamped text THE RIGHT WAY, BRACE PREMIUM, and COLLIER on the spine. A second volume is bound in brown leather with decorative gilt fleur-de-lis symbols and spine lettering identifying the work as THE LAST CHRONICLE OF BARSET by TROLLOPE, with NELSON printed at the foot of the spine. A third volume is bound in worn brown leather, featuring a red leather title label on the spine stamped TELEMACHUS in gilt, with a numeral 2 stamped below. The final volume is bound in cream-colored vellum-style boards with a maroon spine label reading LANCICII MEDITATIONES in gilt; the text block exhibits red-stained top edges. All volumes appear to be octavo in size. No dust jackets are present.

Condition report:

The collection exhibits significant signs of age and wear across all volumes (photo 1). The leather-bound volumes show heavy rubbing and scuffing to the boards and spines, with notable loss of material at the spine ends. The tan cloth volume shows fading to the gilt lettering and general darkening of the fabric. The vellum-style volume exhibits surface soiling and darkening to the boards. Exposed paper edges on all volumes show varying degrees of foxing, darkening, and dust soiling. The Telemachus volume is the second volume of a set and is therefore incomplete.
